Moving Out of Our Comfort Zone to Achieve Success by Priya Deelchand

Moving Out of Our Comfort Zone to Achieve Success

By Priya Deelchand

We all want to be successful in life, yet today, very few people can truly say that they have achieved the success that they always desired. One of the main reasons why most of the successful people in the world achieved extraordinary success is because they were able to think differently, take risks and move out of their comfort zones. Most people remain unsuccessful and stay in their comfort zones because of fears, limiting beliefs, habits or simply because of laziness. In fact, our comfort zone is a place in which we feel safe and secure and where there is no sense of risk. It is made up of the known, the accepted and the expected and it can be physical, emotional, intellectual or financial.

For most people, moving out of the comfort zone can be very frightening and embarrassing. But it is certainly the single most important step we can make towards achieving peak performance in anything we do. We must take actions we have not previously taken if we expect to achieve different results than what we have been getting. Tony Robbins once said "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten."

One of the best ways to move out of our comfort zone is to face our fears and do the things we fear most. In fact, most of our fears are unnecessary and counter productive. We frighten ourselves unnecessarily about things that will never happen. Franklin D Roosevelt was right when he said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." We should face our fears and see them for what they really are. Once we face our fears, the death of fear is certain. What are fears anyway? According to psychologists, F.E.A.R is just "False Evidence Appearing Real". We should make it a habit to do something that frightens us every day. The more we push ourselves out of our comfort zone and do the things that scare us, the easier it becomes.

We can also get out of our comfort zone and achieve success by breaking our habits. Our habits determine our outcomes and our negative habits always create negative consequences that prevent us from getting the success we want. In order to become more successful, we can start by replacing our bad habits with more productive ones. Research shows that it takes only 21 days to develop a habit. According to Paul Getty, the individual who wants to reach the top in business must appreciate the might and force of habit. He must be quick to break those habits that can break him and hasten to adopt those practices that will become the habits that help him achieve the success he desires.

Another great way to get out of our comfort zone is to get rid of our self-limiting beliefs. These limiting beliefs are things we believe about ourselves that place limits on our aptitudes. Examples of self-limiting beliefs are when we think that we are not good enough to do certain things or we are not intelligent enough to succeed in life. Most of these beliefs are not true, but they make us stay in our comfort zones and play small in life. We can eliminate our limiting beliefs by becoming aware of them, identifying them and replacing them with more positive beliefs.

In order to succeed in anything, we have to break free of our comfort zone, and step into the unknown. Getting out of our comfort zone is not always easy and often requires lots of hard work, discipline and persistence. Brian Tracy once said, "Ninety to ninety-five percent of people will withdraw to the comfort zone when what they try doesn't work. Only that small percentage, five or ten percent, will continually improve themselves; they will continually push themselves out into the zone of discomfort, and these are always the highest performers in every field." We must make a commitment with ourselves to do all that it takes to overcome our fears, eliminate our limiting belief and break our bad habits to get the success that peak performers achieve.

The Triple Filter Test (Posted by Priya Deelchand)

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in
high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher
and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"

"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me
anything, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the
Triple Filter Test."

"Triple filter?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about
my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what
you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test.
The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what
you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "Actually I just heard about it and..."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's
true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of
goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend
something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "You want to tell me something bad
about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass
the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of
usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to
be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "If what you want to tell me is
neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The Secret of Success (posted by Priya Deelchand)

During a meeting of top salespeople from around the country,
the 'big cheese' himself, a man who'd consistently had the highest
sales figures for the last 20 years, and who earned more money
than even the owner of his company, got up to speak.

"I am now going to reveal the secret of my success," he said.
"I wrote it down on a piece of paper and I put it in this envelope.
But success must be earned. So I'm going to sell the envelope to
the highest bidder. You have my word that it contains what I said
- the Secret of my Success, not only as a salesman, but also
in life."

The bidding started slowly... $5, then $10, then $50, $100,
$130, $150, $200. Finally one of his colleagues bought the envelope
for $1000. The happy buyer took the envelope and kept it to
himself until he got home that night. Only then did he open it
to learn THE SECRET OF SUCCESS.

What do you think was written on the piece of paper?

Think about it. Make a mental note of whatever comes to mind
before reading the answer. Because I am going to tell you what it
was later in this e-mail. And in my opinion what was written on
that piece of paper is worth much more than $1000.

The winner of the auction tore open the envelope, unfolded
the piece of paper and read the following hand-written words:

THE SUCCESS' SECRET IS... TO ASK.

God and Me ! (Posted by Priya Deelchand)

My dearest friends,

Hope you are all doing great!

Here is a wonderful post shared by my great friend Sangeeta Ramdin that I would like to share with you.

God and Me

GOD: Hello. Did you call me ?

ME: Called you ? No... Who is this ?

GOD: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.

ME: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.

GOD: What are you busy at ?

ME: Don't know. But I can't find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.

GOD: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

ME: I understand. But I still can't figure out. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.

GOD: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

ME: Tell me, why has life become complicated now ?

GOD: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

ME: Why are we then constantly unhappy ?

GOD: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.

ME: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty ?

GOD: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

ME: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty.

GOD: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

ME: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer ?

GOD: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience their life become better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful ?

GOD: Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

ME: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems ?

GOD: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner Strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

ME: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading...

GOD: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

ME: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do ?

GOD: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass.Let others work with the clock.

ME: In tough times, how do you stay motivated ?

GOD: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are
missing.

ME: What surprises you about people ?

GOD: when they suffer they ask, "why me ?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me" Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

ME: Sometimes I ask, who am I ? Why am I here? I can't get the answer.

GOD: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be.Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

ME: How can I get the best out of life ?

GOD: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

ME: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

GOD: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

ME: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the New Day with a new sense of inspiration.

GOD: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure.
There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.

Have a joy filled day!

Much Love,
Priya:))

Your Weakness Can Become Your Greatest Strength! (posted by Priya Deelchand)

This is a story of one 10-year-old boy who decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move. "Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more moves?"

"This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to know," the Sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.

Several months later, the Sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the Sensei intervened. "No," the Sensei insisted, "Let him continue."

Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament. He was the champion.

On the way home, the boy and Sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind. "Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?" "You won for two reasons," the Sensei answered. "First, you've almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defence for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm."

The boy's greatest weakness had become his greatest strength.

The Seven Wonders Of The World (shared by Priya Deelchand)

A group of students was asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World." Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noticed that one quiet student hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many."

The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World' are:
1. to see
2. to hear
3. to touch
4. to taste
5. to feel
6. to laugh
7. and to love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous!

Don't We All? (posted by Priya Deelchand)

Don't We All
By Author Unknown

One evening I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to finish work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum. From the looks of him he had no car, no home, no clean clothes and no money.

There are times when you feel generous, but there are times that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of the "Don't want to be bothered" times! "Hope he doesn't ask me for money," I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop and he didn't look like he could have enough money to even ride the bus.

After a few minutes he spoke. "That's a very nice car," he said. He was ragged, but had an air of dignity around him. I said "Thanks," and continued wiping off my car. He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money never came. As the silence between us widened, something inside said, "Ask him if he needs any help." I was sure that he would say yes, but I held true to the inner voice.

"Do you need any help?" I asked. He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget. We often look for wisdom in great accomplishments. I expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments. I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. He spoke three words that shook me, "Don't we all?" he said. I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day.

Those three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help. Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that!

You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have. A different perspective on life, a glimpse of something beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you, through a torn world can see.

Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that. Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise to minister to a soul too comfortable in himself. Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum and then said, "Go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help."
